Dividend Increases Healthy Again
Last week saw only a few dividend increases, and none of them provided a yield high enough to be attractive most dividend investors. This week has seen a much stronger set of increases, with one even topping 10% yield.
Birner Dental (BDMS), a provider of business services to the dental industry, has increased its dividend 17% to $0.20 per share. This generates a new yield of 4.92% – a rate which most dividend investors will consider worth their time. Warwick Valley Telephone Co. (WWVY), a communications provider to various areas, has increased its quarterly dividend 9.1% to $0.24 per share. This produces a yield even more attractive than Birner Dental’s at 6.63%. Lennox Int (LII), a large provider of heating and air conditioning products, has increased its quarterly dividend to $0.15, generating an unimpressive yield of 1.35%.
PepsiCo (PEP), the international food and drink manufacturer, has increased its dividend 7% to $0.48 per share. This is the 38th consecutive year PepsiCo has increased its dividend and thus classes as a Dividend Aristocrat. The new yield produced is 2.89%. Another Dividend Aristocrat, Air Products (APD), provider of industrial gases and chemicals, has increased its quarterly dividend 9% to $0.49 per share, resulting in a yield of 2.62%. Astro-Med (ALOT), a specialty printer and data-analysis equipment developer and manufacturer, has increased its dividend to $0.07 per share, producing a new yield of 3.76%.
Mead Johnson (MJN), an internationally-renowned company specialising in paediatric nutrition, has increased its quarterly dividend 12.5% per share, generating a new yield of 1.75%; somewhat unimpressive. Guess? Inc. (GES), a leading provider of contemporary clothing for all ages, has increased its dividend yield to $0.16 per share, generating a fresh yield of 1.37%. Finally, the highest yielding invesmtnet this week, Prospect Capital investment trust (PSEC) has announced it is increasing its quarterly distribution to $0.14 per share, generating a high yield of 13.48%.
Within this week’s report are a few companies worth considering for dividend investments. Birner Dental and Warwick Valley Telephone Co. provide particularly strong yields, and backed up by somewhat decent companies. If you are aggressive you may wish to consider investing in Prospect Capital, with its yield of 13.48%. However, you should consider the volatility of this company, especially in the short term, as the global recovery from recession will still be fragile, and finance companies may still be hit.
